A stretch of the A66 is expected to remain closed for a number of hours following a collision between Kirkby Thore and Crackenthorpe this morning.
The collision, involving a HGV and a van, was reported at 5am.
The driver in the van suffered serious injuries. The driver in the HGV was not seriously injured.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
