A 15-year-old boy today (April 25) pleaded guilty to a racially aggravated common assault.

This follows an incident on 15 March in the Upperby area of Carlisle,  where a schoolboy was victim to a racially-aggravated assault. The incident was filmed and was shared widely online.

The defendant, a 15-year-old boy,  received a referral order meaning he will have to sign a contract committing to work positively with the Youth Justice Service for 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay court costs and £100 compensation to his victim.

Detective Inspector Stephen Kidd said: “We understand this incident resulted in concern from our communities.

"Hate crime will not be tolerated.

"This has been a complex investigation and this case underlines our commitment to ensuring people responsible for committing hate crimes are held accountable by being put before a court."
