The family of a man who died following a road traffic collision on the A6 south of Hackthorpe on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, have paid tribute to a man who will be greatly missed.

Peter Cox was cycling when he was involved in a collision with a HGV.

The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.

The family of Peter Cox said:

As a family we are absolutely heartbroken at losing Pete in such a sudden and devastating way. A dearly loved Grandfather, father, brother and father-in-law, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends but leaves us all with many happy memories.

Pete led a very active lifestyle. He cycled daily, was a keen hillwalker and enjoyed nothing more than being outdoors exploring the Lake District.

He also loved his sport, playing cricket well into his 50s and was an avid follower of horseracing and rugby.

Pete lived happily in Lowther for the past 27 years and we have taken comfort in the many messages of support that we have received from the local community during this extremely difficult time.

We would also like to express our gratitude to the emergency services and members of the public who attended the scene.
