A further man has been sentenced for his role in a large-scale cannabis factory uncovered in Carlisle in 2023, which is believed to be the largest find of its kind in Cumbria.
The operation, valued at an estimated £4.5 million, was discovered at a unit on Lancaster Street, off Botchergate on 10 May 2023.
The man was sentenced at court today the 14 September 2026, for his involvement in the organised cultivation of cannabis.
Jurgen Toli, 30, of Edmunds Road, London was sentenced to two and a half years at Carlisle Crown Court today (14 September 2026).
Two other men have previously been sentenced in connection with the same investigation.
The man sentenced today attempted to escape but sustained two broken legs, which resulted in a delay to his court proceedings.
He has now appeared before the court and been sentenced for his role in the operation.
Inside the unit, officers uncovered a full-scale industrial cannabis production, with a significant quantity of drugs recovered.
Detective James Bowness said:
“This was one of the largest cannabis grows uncovered in Cumbria and will have undoubtedly had a clear impact on the supply of illegal drugs in the area.
“Tackling serious and organised crime remains a priority, and information from the public is vital in helping us identify and disrupt activity like this.
“If you notice anything unusual, particularly in empty buildings or industrial units, please report it to police.”
Tell-tale signs that could indicate a cannabis farm is in your neighbourhood include:
- Strong, sickly smells coming from properties
- Properties where the windows are constantly covered
- Excessive security around properties, such as CCTV
- High levels of unusual condensation on windows
- Lots of visitors – and at unsociable hours
- Bright lights day and night
- Constant buzz of ventilation
