An extensive multi-agency search has been carried out east of Carlisle this afternoon and this evening following a reported concern about what may have been a microlight aircraft in distress.
Police, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and aircraft experts have been involved following a single report from one person at 4.30pm.
This was believed to be in the rural area around the A689 and A69. Subsequent enquiries suggest what was seen may have been a paraglider.
At this time nothing has been found that would indicate anyone has been hurt or any landing has taken place that would cause further concern.
As well as searches of land, officers have also spoken to local aircraft training and airfield representatives, who have no reports of any aircrafts or paragliders being in distress.
The public may see a larger-than-normal presence of emergency service personnel in this area as a result.
