Police have arrested a man following suspicious activity near Arrad Foot.
A 56-year-old man, from Wigton, has been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and remains in police custody.
The arrest follows an incident where a woman, running down a country lane, saw a man wearing black clothing and a balaclava. The woman, aged in her 30s, immediately ran away from the man.
The incident is reported to have occurred at approximately 7:20am on Wednesday (8 April).
Police have received several calls regarding the same incident following a subsequent social media post.
Officers have increased their presence in the area as enquiries continue and to provide reassurance.
Sergeant Simon Totten, South Lakes Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We understand incidents of this nature can cause understandable concern within the community, particularly following discussion on social media.
“Our enquiries have resulted in the arrest of a man as we aim to establish the full circumstances of this incident.
“We would like to hear from anyone who holds any information which may assist our enquiries.
“We would ask residents to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious, while continuing their day-to-day routines as normal.”
