A man who attacked his partner while she slept, inflicting serious injuries, has been jailed for 11 years.
Patrick Webster, 69, of Fisher Street, Workington, was convicted in September of grievous bodily harm with intent and witness intimidation following a trial at Carlisle Crown Court.
He was sentenced by the same court on Tuesday (13 Oct).
The court heard how Webster was in bed with his partner at a caravan site on the west Cumbrian coast on 20 December 2025.
She woke in the early hours to him dragging her from the bed by her hair.
Webster then began punching her to the back and body.
Despite being in a great deal of pain, she got away from Webster and was able to call for an ambulance.
At hospital, she was found to have suffered six broken ribs and a lacerated spleen.
Webster was arrested but answered no comment to all questions.
While on bail with conditions not to contact the victim, he made repeated, abusive phone calls to her, including threatening to kill her.
On one occasion, he said: “If you go to court and say I hit you, I’ll find you and you’re dead.”
Webster denied the offences at court but was convicted and sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Detective Inspector Tom Windridge said: “This is a significant sentence which sees a violent man spending a considerable amount of time in prison.
“I would like to recognise the bravery of the survivor in this case, not only for coming forward to report the violence she suffered but also for standing firm in the face of severe attempts at intimidation.
“I hope that this result, and the courage of the survivor, serve as an inspiration to other survivors to come forward and report offences.”
