A man who was involved in a savage, brutal and cowardly attack on an innocent victim, leaving him with serious head injuries, a collapsed lung and broken facial bones has been jailed for nearly five years.
Louie Graham, 22, who admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent, was arrested on the night he inflicted the horrific attack on a young man in Frizington, which left the victim needing emergency treatment in intensive care.
Graham, of Woodhouse Road, Whitehaven, was involved in the assault on December 7 last year at the home of a former partner after breaking in through the back door with a number of other males.
Graham had recruited others to go with him to the address before the violence took place.
The victim was visiting at the time. He was told to leave when the group arrived but went back into the house out of concern for the woman living there.
The injuries inflicted on him were so savage the stairs and living room had blood spatters on the walls and carpets.
The woman rang for help from police after the intrusion. Officers arrived to find the victim lying on the floor outside, covered in blood and unconscious.
Graham initially told police he had been in the house when a number of unknown males had broken in.
He even claimed he had tried to help the victim, saying this explained blood found on him.
But, after being charged, Graham later admitted in court causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court.
Detective Constable Toby Gott oversaw the case.
Speaking after the sentence, he said: “This was a savage, brutal and cowardly attack on an innocent young man which left him with extremely serious injuries and which had a profound impact on him and those closest to him.
“Graham initially claimed to be an innocent party in this violent episode but later admitted his guilt and now has time to reflect behind bars on what he has done.
“Violent crime that has such a horrific impact on an innocent victim such as this will never be tolerated in west Cumbria.”
