A man who broke into a city centre business on Thursday morning (5 March) was arrested, charged and today (March 6) sentenced to eight months in prison.
Police were called in the early hours of Thursday morning – around 5.20am – by a member of staff reporting damage and a suspected break-in at the O2 store in Carlisle.
Officers attended and two people – a man and a woman - were subsequently arrested.
Ashley Queen, 37, of Dunmallet Rigg, Carlisle, was charged with burglary other than a dwelling, drink driving and driving whilst disqualified.
He appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today (6 March) where he admitted all three charges and was sentenced to eight months in prison.
Detective Sergeant Chris Brennand said: “Officers were able to react swiftly to the report of the break-in and quickly arrest Queen nearby.
“Despite his protestations in his police interview, Queen admitted the offences at court and has been sentenced to an immediate prison term.
“This case should demonstrate that Cumbria Police is committed to pursuing those people who believe they can target individuals and businesses and get away with it.”
