Copeland Neighbourhood Policing Team and the Local Focus Hub welcomed a number of guests on 15 June 2026, including the Mayor of Whitehaven, Councillor Raymond Gill, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Cumbria, Gerard Richardson, and Whitehaven Town Council Clerk, Marlene Jewel.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity for officers to engage with partners, showcase their work and strengthen existing relationships. Inspector Mike Hird delivered a presentation outlining the role of the Neighbourhood Policing Team, highlighting recent successes and the importance of effective partnership working in addressing local issues.
PCSO Simon Kane, one of the force’s trained drone pilots, also attended and provided an overview of how drone technology supports day-to-day policing. The visit concluded with a live drone demonstration, illustrating how this equipment plays a vital role in preventing and detecting crime.
Inspector Mike Hird said:
“Drones are an increasingly important tool for policing. They allow us to cover large areas quickly, support searches, and provide a real-time overview of incidents, helping us to keep both the public and our officers safe.
“They are a key asset in how we prevent crime, gather evidence and respond effectively to incidents across our communities.”
