Police have made two arrests following a suspicious incident in English Street, Carlisle, earlier today ( June 9 ).
Officers received a report at 3.42pm, with a person reporting suspicions a man may have been carrying a firearm, wrapped in a plastic bag.
Nobody was threatened and nobody was harmed.
Enquiries were carried out to establish the exact circumstances and people may have seen a larger-than-normal police presence as a result, in and around the city centre.
The arrests were made and a glass device believed to be used for smoking was seized.
This is believed to have been the item seen by the person in the incident.
Armed officers were initially deployed as a precaution but stood down later.
There was no perceived wider threat to the public.
