A Workington man has been jailed this week (5 May) for robbery.
Ryan Langcake, 35, of Northside, Workington was sentenced to four years for robbery of a convenience store.
The court heard how in the late hours of 1 November 2025 police received a report of robbery involving an offensive weapon in the Station Road area of Workington.
It was seen on CCTV that Langcake jumped over the counter of the store and proceeded to push the till onto the floor and then continued to hit the till with a hammer in attempt to open it.
Langcake then continued to jump back over the counter and retrieve a tub of money with between £200 and £300 worth of cash.
CCTV footage then captured Langcake exiting the store and changing his clothing behind a wall before entering a takeaway.
Speaking on the case Detective Sergeant Peter Schofield said:
“Robbery is a serious offence and will not be tolerated in Cumbria. This individual made deliberate efforts to avoid being identified, but our officers were able to track his movements and secure the evidence needed to bring them before the courts.
“I would like to thank the witnesses who came forward, as well as the officers involved, whose work has resulted in this offender being brought to justice.
“We remain committed to working with communities to bring offenders to justice.”
